Marvin and Teddie, Teddie and Marvin — Teddie is the orange one, Marvin is the black one.
Just lately, Marvin has gone completely crazy — he attacks Teddums, who is the most peaceable of kitties, screeches and hollers blood-curdlingly, runs under the bed and acts like he is very afraid (that or very angry at) Teddums and me. This is not their usual rumbling around the house. This is serious. They are knocking over the stove and refrigerator, knocking-pictures-off-the-wall rumbling. Teddie simply does not know what to do, and neither do I. I’m scared for both of them.
Of course, I went out to run a small errand and came home to find them cuddled up on the bed together, their heads together, licking each other, and their little paws around each other. Thing is, though, I don’t know how long that will last. I don’t know what is causing this fear and anger in Marvin. I don’t have any experience with mental illness, in cats or in humans.
And I AM the person who, one of my very dearest friends committed suicide on me, after having sent me several texts the night before that sounded just perfectly cheerful and normal.
And these days, you never know if somebody is not just going to go nuts and shoot up the place for no reason. Robert Heinlein wrote about The Crazy Years in his books. I sure didn’t know we were all going to be living through them the way we are. Of course any country where millions of people could actually vote for Donald F-ing Trump HAS to be crazy. But I am still really concerned. My little household has been the last haven of sanity and happiness for me and my boys. I’d take Marvin to the vet if I thought there was one single thing that Dr Mary could do to help. But I don’t think there is.
Does anybody have any idea what could cause this? It’s not old age or dementia. Marvin is only 4 years old.
Thanks for reading.
Love, Rose
