Another abstract Bucket entry. Been “grayed in” for most of a week here in Philadelphia so the title is both a reference to my hopes for local weather and what I think is one of the main purposes of The Daily Bucket.
The Daily Bucket is a nature refuge. We amicably discuss animals, weather, climate, soil, plants, waters and note life’s patterns.
We invite you to note what you are seeing around you in your own part of the world, and to share your observations in the comments below.
Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the phenological patterns that are quietly unwinding around us. To have the Daily Bucket in your Activity Stream, visit Backyard Science’s profile page and click on Follow.

To see further there are a number of options you can take.
Get higher --
View from a hill in Massachusetts
View of Lucerne Switzerland from a nearby hill
Get a view clear from local obstructions —
Looking north up Hemlock Lake, NY
A view of a summer meadow — Stid Hill, NY
Travel in order to see new things —
Trail at Nottingham Serpentine Barren
(I started adding a “trail” tag to some of my images after someone did a theme on trail pictures.)
Ring-billed Gull in Philadelphia — these birds are a bit more migratory than some people thought
Sometimes just drifting is sufficient
Look at new environments —
Cuttlefish at an aquarium
Frog in Malaysia on rocks about 30’ upstream from a large waterfall
And also remember to look at the small things close at hand since looking inwards is sometimes rewarding as well.
Small Mason Bee on a Chicory blossom
Violet growing in a small crevice on a rock outcrop
