Congressman Tom Garrett is conduction a survey by mail to ascertain where his constituents want him to focus his efforts in 2018. Unfortunately, Congressman Garrett has never supported anything that I would support. In fact, I oppose everything that he supports. Here is his list of issues for his survey:
Strengthening border security
Replacing Obamacare
Rolling back 8 years of regulations that are choking U.S. businesses
Balancing the federal budget
Cutting wasteful government spending
Rebuilding our military preparedness
Reducing taxes to get the economy going
Protecting the rights of the unborn
The survey instructs us to rank these issues from 1 to 10, 1 being the most important.
Congressman Garrett, forget about those issues, I don’t want you supporting any of those. Here’s what I want you to support (in no particular order):
DACA, CHIP, $15 minimum wage, healthcare as a right, climate change research, renewable energy, meaningful aid to Puerto Rico (not paper towels), womens rights, access to abortions, net neutrality, strong environmental protections, elimination of offshore drilling, no Muslim ban.
That’s all I could squeeze in to the fairly small comment area on his survey. I do not expect that my response to his survey will have any positive effect, but I consider it my responsibility to let the Congressman know that I oppose him completely.
Now, for a word about the folks in the photo with Congressman Garrett:
Jason Kessler, a white nationalist, was an organizer of the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville in August 2017. He also founded Unity and Security for America, which the SPLC describes as, “a nativist, white nationalist group.”
David W. Caron and Isaac Smith are also members of Unity and Security for America.
Congressman Garrett later denounced Kessler and his message. However, his (Garrett’s) positions on issues are so far to the right, and his support of our racist president is so complete, that I question the sincerity of that denunciation.
