Good morning all ye CUA people. This week is exceptionally busy for me. I don’t have much time for creative writing.
My previous CUA diary explored sayings that we hear all the time, many of which are of questionable veracity. Along those same lines, there are certain cliches that are overused (okay, that’s why we call them cliches in the first place). Some don’t really bother me. Others test the limits of my usually-docile nature. Here are the ones that irritate me the most.
Making lemons into lemonade
Location, location, location
The fish rots from the head (seems to be a popular diary title these days)
LOOK, with the O’s turned into eyeballs
Nada, zilch, zip (just saw that one last night in an online ad)
From politicians and talking heads:
At the end of the day
The American people
Moving forward
Seeing the forest for the trees? I saved it for last, of course. If I had $10 for every time someone said it to me, thinking they were cute and original, I could have retired long ago.
What are your least favorite overused sayings? As always, this is an open thread.
