Donald Trump is incapable of ever keeping his mouth closed. That’s why his attorneys don’t trust him with Mueller. There’s an axiom in sales; Close and stay closed. Donald abhors the awkward silence that comes after the close. He has to fill the vacuum. And that’s why he looses face to face encounters. It’s also the reason those who wish to influence him battle to be the last one in the room with him.
The follow to the above axiom is the first to speak after the close is the loser. In sales this holds true almost 99% of the time. It’s really hard to keep your mouth shut following a close, it takes discipline. And Donald Trump has never demonstrated that kind of discipline.
The longest time I’ve ever had to keep my mouth shut is 5 minutes. It’s not easy. That five minutes seems like 5 hours. I’ve also had a trainee blow my close because they were too impatient.
Donald also has a lot of tells. The one most of us are acquainted with is his crossed arms. When his arms are crossed he’s not even listening. Stop selling. Change the topic. Come back to your point later, when his arms aren’t crossed.
I haven’t read “The Art of the Deal” so I don’t know what it says is Donald’s style, but I would venture his preferred methods are doing deals over the phone or intimidation. We’ve seen both demonstrated numerous times. Intimidation was what he used in the debates, both in the primary and the general. And as to phone calls…
Donald also uses third party intimidation. Such as Micheal Cohen etc.
You can bet Micheal Avenatti and Robert Mueller have observed Trump’s “style”. They are gifted closers.
