If you’re doing a spit-take, calm down and read on. There’s some interesting stuff below.
Bob Cesca dug up a Tweet from Bill Kristol featuring Marco Rubio in a video from something called “Republicans for the Rule of Law”. This was from 2012.
Yeah, the Internet never forgets.
It’s another example of “When the facts are on your side, pound the facts. When the law is on your side, pound the law. When neither is on your side, pound the table.”
Welcome to 2019 and Trumpworld “Little Marco”. By all means, share this with your right-wing “friends”.
(See the update below if the link to the video doesn’t work.)
But Wait — There’s More!!!
Interestingly enough, Republicans for the Rule of Law are still around. Here’s what their web site looks like now.
Republicans for the Rule of Law is a coalition of Republicans who believe the Special Counsel’s investigation should be completed without political interference. We represent the majority of Republicans who believe Robert Mueller should not be fired.
They are working with a group called Defending Democracy Together.
We are conservatives and Republicans standing up for the rule of law, for free trade, and for more welcoming legal immigration policies.
Links on their page take you to the aforementioned Republicans for the Rule of Law, as well as:
• Becoming American Initiative, “We need legal immigration and DACA reform.”
• Republicans Fighting Tariffs, “No trade war has ever worked. We don’t want to make America 1930 again.” SENATOR BEN SASSE
• Republicans Against Putin, “If our President won’t stand up to Putin, Republicans must.”
• and The Russia Tweets. “SEARCH 3,000,000 RUSSIAN TROLL TWEETS This is the evidence of Russian interference in American politics.”
Funny — I wonder why I’ve never heard about them from Fox… or the New York Times for that matter. It looks like there might be more to this than just the Rubio video.
Take this with a large grain of salt — when they talk about what “the majority of Republicans” want, poll after poll show the majority of Republicans support Trump. Still, if you’re looking for an alternative voice on the conservative side, there just might be news we can use here for (and on) our conservative ‘friends’.
Feel free to share any knowledge you have of these groups in comments. It would be interesting to know more about who they are, and who is funding them.
“You know how they say the universe is not only stranger than we imagine,
it’s stranger than we can imagine?
It’s even stranger than that!”
UPDATE: this video is an explainer about the Rubio video and the group behind it. If you can’t see the video at the tweet link above, this gives a summary of the Rubio commentary with some additional info on a related video about Lindsay Graham. (You may want to mute the video — there’s just a music track playing over repeated still frames and the text.)
