I’m a cat lover from age two when I was allowed to name our new gray kitten, Sugar. Though not always as sweet as her name, I was heartbroken when she died 20 years later. The way we all are when we lose a family member.
We love them unreservedly. Our laws need to protect them, too.
This year Virginia took animal protection to a new level. Animal cruelty is now a felony and the animal no longer has to die for it to be prosecuted as such.
George and Cecil. Named for my favorite characters in Room With a View
I adopted these brothers a few years ago and just recently lost George to throat cancer. Losing him that way was hard enough. I can’t fathom losing him to animal cruelty. No animal should have to die to warrant a felony conviction.
Well done, Virginia.
P.S. I love dogs, too. Especially my sister’s corgis. Ripley will be a great companion when I go door knocking. If you want to contribute some bones to me and my favorite pup so we can win the day, here’s info.
