Morning Open Thread is a daily, copyrighted post from a host of editors and guest writers. We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in an open forum.
I’ve come to think of this post as one where you come for the music and stay for the conversation—so feel free to drop a note. The diarist gets to sleep in if she so desires and can show up long after the post is published. So you know, it's a feature, not a bug.

Morning everyone and welcome to Zydeco Thursday. Of course, you can post any sort of music you’re in the mood for this morning.
Here on the gulf coast, it’s a warm 76°F at the moment with a high expected in the low 90s. No rain today, though, so there’s that. This week has been a productive one so far, which I hope continues on through today. Mechanical construction in suburban and rural areas is particularly busy in the summers—that’s when schools schedule major upgrades and maintenance and the heat tests even newer cooling systems. But I’m not here to complain today; I’m grateful for a job I enjoy and the health to enjoy life in general.
Laissez les bon temps rouler!
From Offbeat:
[Rosie] Ledet has performed to critical acclaim, packed clubs and festivals from Long Beach, California to Davenport, Iowa and across Europe. While much of modern zydeco is filled with grunts, groans, boasts, hollers, one-liners and tributes to barnyard animals set to a beat, Ledet’s stories of making up, breaking up, teases, fantasies, nightmares and blues are as fresh as a December breeze on a July afternoon.
She’s become infamous for her lyrics of double entendre, such as the words of “I’m Gonna Take Care of Your Dog,” from the 1996 Zesty Zydeco CD. Ledet, who calls herself a “pussycat” in the song, warns a girlfriend to keep her hungry dog (man) “on a real short leash.”
“Don’t let your dog/follow me home./ Cause I got a place/ where he can bury his bone.”
A long, sexy purr follows.
On the 1999 I’m A Woman CD, Rosie tells her wayward man, “You’re doing me dirty/ you know it just ain’t fair/ So tonight/ you can eat my poussiere [dust].”
