And the rest
Tim Ryan showed himself completely out of step not just with other candidates on the stage, but with his own party. He doesn’t even seem to like his party — which isn’t exactly how you win primary voters.
John Delaney seemed to be so convinced that he was going to be overlooked that he made sure he wasn’t. In the worst way. Plus, his answers were … what’s that word? Bad. They were bad.
Bill De Blasio had some of the best lines of the night, and might even be moved up to the middle group … except that 1) he needed to do a lot more than that and 2) he showed plenty of why he can be both effective and widely disliked.
Jay Inslee could. not. stop. hurting himself. Even when he was doing well. Even when he was giving a strong answer. Even when he was sharp, and quick, and absolutely right … he couldn’t stop himself from draping every answer in such a disdainful level of ego that he made himself the least likable man on stage.
I would say the room … but Chuck Todd was there.
