What we’re facing boils down to a shouting match. The reason Hillary’s e-mails were so damn important and the Republican Party joining forces with Russia isn’t is because we’re not making enough noise.
I get hassled a lot by communists for using the hammer & sickle like this, and while they do have a point — Putin’s Russia is hardly communist and far from being a worker’s paradise — I always tell them that a couple of trillion of my taxpayer dollars went into making that symbol mean “Russia/Bad” and if the only thing I’m getting out of it is a shorthand on signs, I’m taking it.
Looks good though, doesn’t it?
I-80 Berkeley. Favorite spot — signs just slip right in.
Driving there I was kind of shocked to see this guy still up. If it looks a bit worn, it’s been there for 8 days and 3 major rainstorms. And that’s after spending two days and one rainstorm on the Santa Monica Fwy. and then being torn up and taped back together.
100,000 people passed under this every day — no Republicans took the time (approx. 10 mins.) to take it down. Tell me that’s not weird.
Here’s how it looked originally — cardboard is miraculous.
Santa Monica Fwy, 2 days at 130,000+ cars per day
Okay, back to the new campaign. I won’t show all of them, but these are the opening salvos.
Each of these took about ten minutes to make and would cost a bundle if done professionally.
US 101 Northbound, San Francisco
Southbound.
Again, apologies to all you communists out there, but I should remind you that if you’d actually given the workers control over the means of production we probably wouldn’t be in this mess. In the mean time though, so long as the President and the GOP are going to be in league with our enemies, We The People need to hold them to account.
Here are the signs I put up in November. I’m interspersing them with some clever and theoretically inspirational quotes in case the scrolling gets monotonous.
“Being an activist is about getting things done. It's not about standing around shaking your fist in anger.” - Christine Quinn
10 feet from roadway, miles to reach.
“You are under no obligation to be the same person you were five minutes ago.” —Alan Watts
Small, but directly visible to 300,000+ cars per day. Up for two weeks last I checked and probably will be forever. Trust me, nobody’s gonna do what it takes to reach this one.
“The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.” — Sun Tzu
I’ve put this up in about 20 major cities now, including St. Louis, Arlington Virginia, Denver, Phoenix & Portland. If we had as few as 50 other people doing this, things would be a hell of a lot different right now.
"That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons of history." ~ Aldous Huxley
“Nationalism does nothing but teach you to hate people you never met, and to take pride in accomplishments you had no part in.” - Doug Stanhope
Back fence of I-5 northbound Rest Area with commanding view of southbound lanes only, none of whom have a prayer of reaching it.
“When you have something to say, silence is a lie.” - Jordan Peterson
“All persons, living and dead, are purely coincidental.” - Kurt Vonnegut
“I prayed for freedom for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.” - Frederick Douglass
“No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.” -Robin Williams
"No matter how cynical you become, it's never enough to keep up." - Lily Tomlin
“The greatest amount of wasted time is the time not getting started.”
—Dawson Trotman
Fencing above soundwalls has consistently proven to be the best place to hang signs. This was up next to 14 lanes of LA’s heaviest traffic for three weeks, last I checked. Probably still there. (I-405 by LAX)
“Those that say that individuals are not capable of changing anything are only looking for excuses.” - Vaclav Havel
"Some mornings it just doesn't seem worth it to gnaw through the leather straps." - Emo Philips
"There are, strictly speaking, no enlightened people, there is only enlightened activity." - Shunryu Suzuki
Last thing you see before a 15 mile climb with no turnarounds.
First thing you see once you’ve made the turnaround and can no longer go back.
"Don't fight forces, use them." — R. Buckminster Fuller
Aye Mateys, the Yukon Ave. undercrossing on the 405, a more epic journey you’re unlikely to find. In Torrance, anyway.
"Things do not happen. Things are made to happen." - John F. Kennedy
One month at 130,000+ cars per day.
