There are many names currently fighting for the top spot on the leader board for most despicable human being in the world currently. Many seem to be members either of the trump administration itself or his plethora of supporters. Trump himself currently sits at the top for a host of reasons made clear in others postings including his downplaying of the coronavirus to locking children in cages as he separates families on the border. Jared Kushner seems to be a strong entrant as well as we are learning more about his shadow task force and his collaboration with his brother to set up testing facilities across the country to make profit from the current crisis. See: www.washingtonpost.com/…
But we also have a new entrant. Well, not so much new, as he has been on the despicable board in the past, but has not been consistently despicable enough to keep his bigly position. Well Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson has raised his profile once again.
As per CNN, Ron stated:
"I'm not denying what a nasty disease COVID-19 can be, and how it's obviously devastating to somewhere between 1 and 3.4 percent of the population," Johnson, a Wisconsin Republican, told the
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Tuesday. "But that means 97 to 99 percent will get through this and develop immunities and will be able to move beyond this."
"But we don't shut down our economy because tens of thousands of people die on the highways. It's a risk we accept so we can move about," Johnson continued, in apparent reference to recent guidance issued at the federal and state levels for people to avoid large groups and stay away from bars, restaurants and other businesses to help blunt the spread of coronavirus. "We don't shut down our economies because tens of thousands of people die from the common flu."
So, please let me summarize. We have 350,000,000 people in the US. And Ron believes that the 1-3.4% of potential casualties should not be a deterrent to us keeping our economy moving forward like nothing is happening. This means that potentially 3-12 million people, in Ron’s eyes are acceptable collateral damage as long as we don’t harm his bank account. Can we all say despicable?
When I think that the GOP can get no lower, along comes Ron Johnson and the like to create a new reality for me. Why I should ever be surprised any more I guess is a mystery.
So, I nominate Ron Johnson for the most despicable human being in the world award…..at least for the day.
