While we debate and vent about trump’s criminal failings, lies and deceptions, let’s keep our eye on the Coronavirus ball. This is what lies ahead.
- The cumulative number of cases yesterday was 19,383.
- How long will it take to reach a million, if infections grow at the current rate? Take a look at the graph. 1-2 weeks!
- The real number of cases is estimated to be 5x to 10x higher than reported numbers due to inadequate testing capacity. So, we may get to a million much sooner.
- What will happen when we have a million cases? Hospitals will be overrun. People will die. We will not be able to build hospitals and equipment fast enough even if we tried.
- What will happen when we have 10 million cases?
- What will it take to bend the curve? Lot more than what we are doing now. China, Singapore and South Korea took some drastic measures to slow down the virus.
- One might say that the curve will bend for natural reasons, exponential curves do not go forever, but that will happen later in the cycle.
Let’s not be under any illusion that vaccines or drugs will be available in the next few weeks; they will be developed but it will take many more months.
Let’s do all we can to protect ourselves and others. Let’s stay at home and follow all guidelines about social distancing, washing hands, etc. Stock up on essentials, but don’t hoard. Let’s preach this to as many others as we can. Our actions will result in flattening of the curve. Practice now since city and state lockdowns are coming.
