So here we are in Day What...of this ongoing pandemic. I do not know the official starting date, but I count Day One as Super Tuesday, as that was the day we got our first positive in MY County (Wake County, NC). Meaning we are now, by my count, 20 days in.
We still have not enough tests, not enough masks, not enough ventilators. New Jersey became the latest state to order Shelter In Place and more may be coming. The US has now become the country with the third most cases in the world. Every day we see more and more positive cases as more testing becomes available….and as some spreading occurs.
This crisis has brought into sharp focus...the many failures that have led to this thing being worse than it had to be...and I am wondering how readily Americans will re-embrace the systems that so failed us. Will we demand more proactive response in the future? America has always been a reactive rather than proactive nation...will that change?
Will we demand contingency plans and better reporting to be in place? Will the fellow feeling we see in many last...or will it fade? Will we demand better for the poor and the vulnerable among us?
One way or another thing thing is going to touch us all.. I’d like to know what people think will be some of the lasting effects. Discuss.
