There are a couple of interesting front page stories right now, one about Amazon warehouse workers who’ve tested positive and another about Trump’s “bungling.”
Two comments, one on each diary, stood out to me.
On the first, about Trump’s “bungling,” claimed the virus is “heaven sent” for the “moneyed elite” who are trying to control the people. So now, the comment proposes, we will be sick and weak and this is good for the “moneyed elite.”
The second comment accuses anybody who uses Amazon of making the workers sick.
OK. Let’s stop this.
First: the “moneyed elite” is who exactly? Would that include wealthy Democrats, sports figures, doctors who are giving their lives to fight the virus? In New York some 40,000 RETIRED medical professionals have answered the call for surge health care workers. Some will likely die saving lives.
Other well to do people invented computer games, wrote and performed hip hop, support progressive causes, work in film, perform in the opera.
Stereotyping people like this is wrong. Historically referring to “the moneyed elite” and stereotyping them as Enemies of the People has gotten people killed in droves.
As for Amazon, I have enormous respect for the workers, the drivers and delivery people but I cannot, as a shut in and high risk senior, not use Amazon. Right now they are literally keeping me alive. The same goes for the medical professionals, FedEx drivers, post office workers, telecom workers, grocery store personnel, veterinarians, and all the other workers who keep our system running.
Are those of us who depend upon our system guilty of harming the workers, giving them virus?
So. We should die I guess? We personally, I personally am responsible for the coronavirus sickening Amazon workers?
So, it would be better, like the Republicans are saying about the economy, if I died for the workers because by using Amazon I am making workers sick with coronavirus.
Think, people, before you write crap like this.
Thank you.
