Dear Biden supporters,
I'll be voting for Biden. I've been a faithful Democrat my entire life. I voted for Hillary in 2016 and voted for Bernie in both primaries (the vast majority of us are good, kind, people fighting against what we see are deep, long-standing injustices - we're not "Bernie Bros" and nasty Twitter trolls).
I get that we're all scared Trump will win again in November. I get that we're all angry that he won in 2016 in the first place. But blaming, shaming, and hating on Bernie voters is not only wrong and unfair (there are a long list of legitimate reasons for Hillary's loss in 2016), but it is absolutely counter-productive.
Please understand that many of us Bernie supporters are mourning the loss of hope we had that we could have a president that would fight aggressively to invest in *human* capital. I'm mourning my patients that don’t have health insurance and are afraid to go to the emergency room when seriously ill; my 17 year-old daughter is sincerely afraid that we will once again yield to political expediency and fall short in the fight to save this planet.
I can't even begin to explain how demoralizing it has been to be on the receiving end of hatred from supporters of the woman I voted for in 2016. I believe Biden will win, but I can already see that we Bernie voters are being set up to take the blame yet again should he lose.
So I'm asking you to be magnanimous in your victory, show empathy, compassion - don't just talk about unity, but actually practice it. That's how we will defeat Trump - that's how we keep our democracy alive so we can continue the fight towards a more perfect union.
Peace,
Bernie Supporters ☮️
