Trump’s approval numbers are sinking fast. Today 6 new polls all showed bad numbers for Trump when it comes to his job approval. Trump’s approval bump, which occurred when the Coronavirus crisis first hit the USA with a sledge hammer in a major way, has now fizzled and faded.
1. Gallup 43% to 54%, -11%
Last time Gallup polled Trump’s approval, on 3/22, they showed him up by 4%, 49% approval to 45% disapproval. No doubt that was the rallying-around effect that typically occurs when a President is in the middle of a major national crisis. Fast forward 3 weeks and it looks completely different. Trump’s approval is now 43% and his disapproval is at 54%. Compared to 3 weeks ago Trump’s approval has dropped a net 15%.
As President Donald Trump works to contain the damage from the novel coronavirus outbreak in the U.S., the rally in support he enjoyed as the nation entered a virtual lockdown has faded. His job approval rating, now 43%, has slipped six percentage points since mid-March when he earned 49% approval, which tied his personal best.
2. Morning Consult 41% to 53 -12%

3. Pew Research 44% to 53% — 9%
Pew: Most Americans Say Trump Was Too Slow in Initial Response to Coronavirus Threat
As the death toll from the novel coronavirus pandemic continues to spiral, most Americans do not foresee a quick end to the crisis. In fact, 73% say that in thinking about the problems the country is facing from the coronavirus outbreak, the worst is still to come.
With the Trump administration and many state governors actively considering ways to revive the stalled U.S. economy, the public strikes a decidedly cautious note on easing strict limits on public activity. About twice as many Americans say their greater concern is that state governments will lift restrictions on public activity too quickly (66%) than not quickly enough (32%).
President Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak – especially his response to initial reports of coronavirus cases overseas – is widely criticized. Nearly two-thirds of Americans (65%) say Trump was too slow to take major steps to address the threat to the United States when cases of the disease were first reported in other countries.
4. Other polls out today showing Trump underwater in his approval ratings
Yougov, which had Trump approval as close as 3% is now showing Trump back underwater by 11%, 42% to 53%. Change Research is also showing Trump underwater by 12%, 44% to 56%.
Yougov: Poll
Change: Majority of voters still disapprove of Trump’s handling of COVID-19
Overall, 56% of voters disapprove of Trump’s handling of the coronavirus crisis, and 44% approve, on par with his ratings from our last poll conducted two weeks ago.
Firehouse Strategies/Optimus has it 42% approve to 58% disapprove for a net of -17%.
Two polls out today show Trump at -7%. Rasmussen and Global Strategy. Rasmussen is the GOP House poll, the poll that usually shows the most generous and Trump-friendly numbers. Global Strategy Group’s poll was in the field April 10-15, so this one probably lags the others a bit. It may adjust in the upcoming days to also show around a double digit approval to disapproval rating as the other polls discussed above all do.
UPDATE:
And, right on cue, the above mentioned Global Strategy Group poll that was in the field a bit earlier than the rest released their latest tracking poll this morning and is joining the double-digit club:
It went from a 7% margin to a 10% margin now, 44% to 54% today.
