I can’t even.
Disclosure: I’m a vegetarian. I understand most people are not. But the fact is I’m proof positive that meat is NOT ESSENTIAL to life and health. We can easily live without it unless we’re an obligate carnivore such as a cat. And I admit concern for my cat if our food supply breaks down.
For fat orange monsters, I’m not the least bit concerned if they have to go without their Big Mac for a few days or even a week or two.
WE DON’T NEED MEAT TO LIVE. And forcing workers to die, and sick people to then spread Covid-19 throughout their communities into order to feed overweight orange people and enrich companies that live on the death of animals and the exploitation of workers, many of them immigrants, people of color and refugees is really unspeakable.
From the Washington Post:
President Trump is expected to sign an executive order Tuesday mandating that meat production plants remain open to head off a food supply shortage, according to one person familiar with the coming action, despite mounting reports of plant worker deaths due to covid.
Trump will invoke the Defense Production Act under the order, which will classify the meat production plants as essential infrastructure that must remain open, said the person, who was not authorized to disclose details of the order. The government will provide additional protective gear for employees as well as guidance, according to the person. Trump is expected to sign the order, first reported by Bloomberg, as early as today.
Please note the monster did not use the DPA to produce medical supplies.
How many people is this creature going to kill? Man this is a win win for the sadistic creep isn’t it. Kill some Somali refugees in the process of getting his hamburger and enriching Tyson.
Workers should strike.
By keeping the plants open, the order would keep the government from using the most effective weapon available to force meat companies to protect their employees: closures.
At least 20 meatpacking plants have closed in recent weeks due to covid outbreaks, according to an analysis by The Washington Post. The United Food and Commercial Workers union, which represents thousands of workers in meat plants across the country, said Tuesday at least 17 workers in the industry have died from the disease and at least 5,000 have been directly impacted by the virus.
Of course union leaders are horrified. I’m horrified. I’m sure the governors of responsible states are horrified.
Nothing, nothing seems to be beyond this horror show of a regime.
