The Des Moines Register released results of new polling by Selzer & Co. (rated as an A+ pollster by FiveThirtyEight) this evening, looking at the race for the Iowa Senate seat currently occupied by hog-castrator and Trump-cuddler Joni Ernst.
The results: Among likely voters, Greenfield leads Ernst by 3 points, 46-43. This tracks in line with the Civiqs poll released earlier this week that found a similar margin of 48-45 among registered voters.
The poll was conducted June 7-10 and so takes all the recent protests, Trump-y actions, and lack of response by Ernst and her Senate GOP comrades into account.
The poll also shows Ernst’s approval/disapproval at 49-39, with 12% undecided. In March, polls showed Ernst’s approval at just 47%, so she has not made any real headway in regaining her popularity since then. Meanwhile, Greenfield’s approval/disapproval sits at 41-20, with 39% undecided.
In 2014 Ernst took over the Senate seat long held by Democrat Tom Harkin when he retired. She won the seat 52.1-43.8 over Bruce Braley. That she is showing a 3 point deficit for a seat she won by more than 8 points in ‘14 has to have her nervous.
