When a cop covers his badge number and removes his name tag, doesn’t that show premeditation to break the law?
And when an entire department does it, isn’t that proof of a criminal conspiracy to avoid identification while lawbreaking, triggering RICO prosecution?
And when the bodycams mysteriously malfunction at the same time, doesn’t that constitute obstruction of justice, destruction of evidence, and deprivation of evidence to the victim?
Qualified immunity absolutely MUST go, because among other things, it isn’t limited, it is pretty near absolute in practice.
A federal law should be passed making it a felony to do the first on an individual basis, a RICO charge against the department and the union in the second case, a felony, a felony, and a civil rights violation respectively in the third.
The states can’t be trusted to do the right thing, shouldn’t be trusted, because they have dragged their legislative feet for decades on the matter, which is why we are where we are.
ENOUGH.
Pass the laws.
