We’ve made it to the last Saturday of summer. Yes I know that technically it’s summer up in the Northern Hemisphere until September 22nd meaning the last Saturday of astronomical summer is September 19th, but we ALL know that Labor Day marks the end of ‘fun summer’. Not that 2020 brought ‘fun summer’ by any stretch of the imagination, but work with me here :). I hope you’re all having a good weekend! Casa Brillig got a lot of household projects done, and is looking forward to more tomorrow then a long-awaited visit to see Mr. Brillig’s family in a socially distant, weather-thankfully-is-good outdoor meetup!
Since it’s Labor Day weekend (thanks, Unions!!!) tonight will be an easy read about a variety of things near and dear to me all rolled up into one neat package. I love music. My inner wannabe musician is most definitely a drummer. I love the enthusiasm of musicians loving what they do. And I adore those moments when generations intersect. Step below the story break for a story that brings all of those together!

You’ve heard (I hope) of Dave Grohl. Multi-instrumentalist famous both for guitar and drums, vocal proponent of lgbtq rights and gun control. Also played in a couple of little-known bands… Nirvana and Foo Fighters. You may not have heard of Nandi Bushell, but she describes herself on her 140K follower Youtube channel as “the British and Zulu drummer girl”. She’s jammed with Lenny Kravitz and is a truly gifted drummer known for her videos covering a variety of songs. She’s 10.
Nandi challenged Dave Grohl to a drum-off in this video, where she covered the Foo Fighter’s classic Everlong:
Grohl responded on August 29th, offering up the song Dead End Friends by his group Them Crooked Vultures. This is Bushell watching his challenge. Her response is one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen recently. Also, watch her as she views his challenge… learning it on the first viewing:
She posted this FOUR DAYS LATER:
I can’t think of anything to say here other than “I expect we’ll be seeing more of her”. Also, mad respect to her parents, because whatever they’re doing, they’re doing right.
Please enjoy our Tops tonight!

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. I'd like to nominate JaeKat's masterly dissection of what's special about the Trump military "losers and suckers" scandal, considering we've been watching him slag the military for four years already. From aarrgghh’s what freepers are saying about trump's military slurs.
