We’re now almost exactly 7 weeks from an election that is going to be close and that Trump is planning to spend the late fall and winter bickering over how little he lost by. We can win the election and prevent a lot of useless drama if we win one key swing state.
Florida.
‘AH, Florida? Really?’ I get it. We constantly lose there by excruciatingly small margins time after time.
We are literally forfeiting votes in a state that:
- Rick Scott only won by 64,145 votes (1% of the vote) in 2014
- Trump only ‘won’ by 112,911 votes (1.2% of the vote) in 2016
- Ron DeSantis only won by 32,463 (0.4% of the vote) in 2018
- Rick Scott only won by 10,033 (0.13% of the vote) in 2018

Some of us who realize how important, in football parlance, “every blade of grass” is have successfully placed candidates in 140/141 of Florida’s state legislative races. Some of those candidates have a very good shot of winning and, more importantly, giving Joe Biden the margin he needs to prevent losing by 0.13% (!) of the damn vote like Bill Nelson did in 2018. (More on that later in the piece. I promise.)
The best example of one of those candidates is Kathy Lewis — who last week secured the endorsement of the only statewide elected Democrat in Florida, Commissioner of Agriculture (and Consumer Services) Nikki Fried.
These events do not occur in a vacuum. And this is not the Florida of even 2018: before Trump’s impeachment, before George Floyd, before COVID, and before Trump admitted to lying about COVID and causing the unnecessary deaths of thousands of their neighbors.
It’s getting to the point that even conservative commentators from the Republican-leaning news outlet, Florida Politics, are calling out the GOP.
Is this a good time to mention that as of Monday 11,118 people have died in Florida from COVID-19?

Trump knew how bad COVID was and tried to have the Republican Convention in Jacksonville!
Trump knew how bad climate change continues to be for our country with forest fires and intense hurricanes and continues to lie about it!
He stands up American military forces to pepper spray American protestors but calls our veterans “losers” and “suckers”. And Republicans continue to let him get away with it all, including Kathy’s opponent — who is a veteran himself!
(Danny Burgess, you’re welcome to make me update this piece later if you grow a spine.)
You do know what Danny Burgess is willing to come out and stand up for? PRE-EMPTIVE POLICING of people.
That said, the Pasco program, according to the Times report, takes this idea to a different level. After the computer identifies people to target, deputies take it from there.
“They swarm homes in the middle of the night, waking families and embarrassing people in front of their neighbors,” the Times reported. “They write tickets for missing mailbox numbers and overgrown grass, saddling residents with court dates and fines.”

Meanwhile, this district runs right through an area of Florida that Trump is bleeding support in.
Republicans know they’re in trouble and they’re triaging their candidates, allowing Florida Politics (their friendly blog) to write about how their candidate’s Dem opponent is pressing the advantage just TODAY.
Democrat Clint Barras is putting his fundraising operation into overdrive, adding nearly $34,000 toward his bid for House District 120.
That’s according to the latest fundraising reports filed with the Division of Elections covering Aug. 22-Sept. 4.
Barras’ new $34,000 haul came in just two weeks. His opponent, Republican candidate Jim Mooney, raised less than $1,800 during the same period.

They’re weak. We know it. Let’s take advantage.
Daily Kos Community, let’s put Kathy Lewis’ fundraising into overdrive!
