What was the Protest About? Anti-War Right? Or Anti-Whatever
It is a grand idea to have a war protest with lots of bodies, but I have to say that after seeing some of the footage, the protest was hijacked by people that were not focused on the practical realities of media coverage for the best benefit of the message. This was supposed to be an anti-war protest, not an anti everything Bush protest.
To allow every person with a grievance a microphone defeats the purpose, in my humble opinion. The microphone should have been given to the mothers who are opposed to the war who have lost their sons. Support Palestine signs, 9/11 was an inside job, don't really fit in and do the cause a diservice. The message lost its effectiveness because of this. It is a shame that this opportunity was diluted.
Though you might disagree, I would think that some degree of organization re: what
the protest about was in order. Instead, it was an anarchy of causes celeb, conspiracy theories, and a general pie fight for anyone who wanted to carry a sign about "whatever".
If there is a next time for protest, I hope folks remember that it is OKAY for liberals and democrats to be organized. To say, "No, you can't carry your "Pet Issue X" sign because this is an anti-war protest". Hello.
Though I vehemently oppose this war from the very beginning, I am glad I wasn't there at the anti-whatever demonstration.
