Many of you might recall one of the great success stories that started and was executed right here on DailyKos, the
Sinclair Boycott.
I'm sure that everyone has their own opinion of why it worked, but my personal opinion is that it was due to focused action from a passionate community.
Many of you may have also been following the development of our website BuyBlue.org since the election. To date we have largely presented information and haven't made any effort to track effectiveness. However, our new campaign is about focused action and we are hoping we can count on your support.
More below the fold...
We of course realize that making the decision to switch your insurance carrier isn't a small matter, like deciding to shop at Costco vs. Sams. However, we want people to do their homework and seriously consider switching if they think Progressive meets their needs.
Why you might ask? The chairman Progressive Insurance contributed over $68,000 to Democratic politicians in the last election cycle including Howard Dean and groups like America Coming Together (ACT). Lewis is also part of a joint venture with George Soros and Herb and Marion Sandler to fund progressive think tanks.
The potential here to shift money in the economy with focused action is huge. Nationwide, the average annual premium is $1000. If you start multiplying $1000 times the number of people that switch the numbers get big really fast.
In the last hour (as of this posting) DailyKos has had about 38,000 hits according to Sitemeter. If everyone that visited in the last hour made the switch to Progressive from their current carrier that would be an economic shift of $38 Million for this year alone. Even if only a few thousand people switch that is an impact in the millions.
We're asking that people evaluate Progressive and if they meet your needs, go ahead and make the switch and then email us so we can update our website. We're taking this to every progressive community out there and we are determined that we are going to have a quantifiable measure of our effectiveness that will make our voices heard loud and clear from board rooms across the country to Wall Street to Capitol Hill.
If this works out well then we'll move on to other industries with similar campaigns in the coming months. With any luck the financial situation for the RNC will be much different in 2006 and 2008 than it was in the past election.
