Hey! It finally worked! My letter to the editor SHOULD be published this coming Monday in the Boulder Daily Camera here in Colorado.
I've been writing a letter to various media at a rate of about one a day for the last week. The media itself has made me crazy, Bush has made me crazy with this sad offer of help and no mention of solidarity with the victims, and so on and so on... I guess I finally struck a cord.
My letter to the editor below the fold:
I am ashamed and appalled. Our President, newly reelected and once again on vacation, finally took the time to show his face, albeit in a taped speech, and raise our donation of aid to the victims of this week's tragedy. However, he failed to give a personal message of compassion to the actual victims. What he said was, "The United States will continue to stand with the affected governments as they care for the victims." The affected governments? How about standing with and by the victims themselves? How about donating more than he plans to spend on his inaugural ball? Oh, yeah, and it took him 4 days to show his face to the world. Why? As reported yesterday, because he was taking walks with Laura, planning for his inaugural parties, and had to deal with some brush that needed cleaning out. Compassionate conservative? I think not. When are we going to hold our President accountable for being so callous and singly self interested?
