Again we are barraged with one of the standard scapegoats for the Republican Party. Vice President Dick Cheney said this week, "What I find most disturbing about these stories is the fact that some of the news media take it upon themselves to disclose vital national security programs, thereby making it more difficult for us to prevent future attacks against the American people," he said. "That offends me."
What offends me is after nearly six years, Osama bin Laden is still free even with this administration operating under the notion that it's above the law.
(more of my letter to the editor from yesterday ...)
Blame it on the media making it difficult for them. I am getting sick of these clowns blaming everyone else. War in Iraq going bad. Blame it on the media. Blame it on the United Nations. Blame it on the Iraqis whom we freed from Saddam Hussein.
Of course, on these politically motivated topics, there's more blame to go around. Gay marriage. Blame it on those evil unelected judges. Flag burning. Evil judges took the power to deal with flag desecration out of the hands of Congress, how terrible. The so-called Terri Shiavo "murder." Evil judges. Evil husband. Evil hospice workers.
Of course, the Republicans still try to dust off their favorite scapegoat, Bill Clinton, whenever possible.
I heard a joke about the Republican Party being the "cut and run" party: cut taxes and run up the debt. In the past six years of Republican fiscal management, the debt has exploded from $5.6 trillion to $8.3 trillion - a 48 percent increase with a 2005 interest payment of $352 billion.
There are some serious problems in Washington D.C. with both parties sharing some of the blame, but we need some real solutions. Obviously the Republicans are more about passing the buck and reckless spending. Time for a change.
