I keep looking and find NOTHING about this in the news yet. Nothing at all. At a minimum, it seems it would be some small piece in the crime section. The rumors and heresay in the neighborhood are rampant and I'm trying to find out the truth. It's not easy. It might be just 'vandalism' or it might be a hate crime attempt. Some of what I post below is fact, some heresay. Help me find out...
below the fold
Fact 1. Phone service (and DSL internet) went out yesterday morning around 9am in our neighborhood. In fact, all phone service went out for 4-8 block radius around the
the GLBT Community Center
Fact 2. Though at first thought to be due to 'construction error', SBC now says (and workers there confirm) it was vandalism (arson) done to a phone line/box in an abandoned building adjecent to the GLBT Center.
Fact3. SBC says service will not be restored until at least this evening, possibly not till Monday. Workers at the site say maybe not till the 10th or so.
Fact4. There are 8 SBC trucks and a PG&E truck at the site of the vandalism.
Seems that would be enough to warrant some sort of news item somewhere?
Heresay1. A PG&E employee working at the site said to several people in our local cafe that the vandals were attempting to break and blow a gas line but failed.
Heresay2. Another PG&E employee said that if successful it would have definitely blown the GLBT center, possibly more.
Rumors in the neighborhood: RAMPANT.
News or Facts; None.
Anyone want to help me determine if this was a hate crime attempt (that could have killed many) or just a stupid vandalism to phone lines.
