Faced with mounting legal bills, Gov. John G. Rowland is establishing a private legal fund that will accept contributions to help pay his lawyers.
The governor is facing legal worries on a number of fronts, primarily a federal grand jury looking into alleged corruption in his administration and a legislative panel just named to consider possible impeachment proceedings against him.
The legal defense fund, reminiscent of the one established for President Clinton, is "in the process of being set up," said Dean Pagani, Rowland's chief of staff.
