With President Joe Biden’s bad night in last week’s presidential debate, Donald Trump’s chances of returning to the White House have increased, a development that has many Americans terrorized at the thought of the most corrupt and morally bankrupt president in history returning to power.
By all reports, Trump and his supporters are eyeing changing America to an autocracy, with Trump as the uncrowned king, his power expanded by multiple folds. This consolidation of power will amp up his promised revenge and retribution against those he considers his enemies and the destruction of our democracy and the rule of law.
How can he be stopped? This is the United States of America, after all. The country that fought a war to get us out from under the rule of a king and to establish a democratic form of government. Who will step forward? Who can we count on? Let’s take a look.
The Republican Party? They’ve sworn their total allegiance to Trump. They’ve embraced corruption in his name and for their own benefit. Their sycophantic embrace of him is why he’s still a viable candidate today.
They wouldn’t convict him after his two impeachments. They offer no serious interest in governing in large part because he doesn’t want them to govern. They try to implement voting laws to grease his return to power.
Our justice system? They’re our great hope, and maybe they’ll eventually come through. But the most corrupt Supreme Court in history, after stalling to try to push Trump’s Jan. 6 trial past the election, has ruled that a president can’t be prosecuted for anything he does while serving in his official capacity.
Even his involvement in trying to overturn the 2020 election may be unassailable due to the court’s ruling. And the corruption doesn’t stop there. Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump stooge, has slowed his stolen classified documents case to the point that it also won’t be decided before November.
The mainstream media? Maybe once they stop inundating us with story after story about Biden’s debate performance, they’ll turn their attention back to the staggering unfitness of Trump for office.
Then again, if the decision by CNN to give Trump a free campaign rally by allowing him to lie, insult, and duck questions continuously during the debate is any indication, the “both sides” foolishness isn’t going to stop.
The well-positioned. You mean like the rich? The captains of industry? The leaders of our financial institutions? Are you kidding me? They may not be crazy about Trump, but they’ll line up to throw money at him because of his proposed tax cuts and extensive deregulation.
It’s been said here that there’s a war between the rich and the rest of us. If you think they’re willing to sacrifice bigger profits, larger shareholder dividends, more generous bonuses, and bigger stock buybacks you haven’t been paying attention.
Christians? Where have you been? They’ve sold their sold to the devil in a blue suit a long time ago. They’ve turned the teachings of God on its ear and have twisted them to justify their support of Trump.
If you look up the word ungodly in the dictionary you’ll see a picture of Trump. But that doesn’t matter, because their lust for power and their wet dream of forcing everyone to live under their belief system has run over their Ten Commandments, no matter how many Red states demand they be displayed in public school classrooms.
The voters? Now you’ve on to something.
I know there’s a big cult out there kneeling at the altar of Trump. They’re gone. You’re not going to win them over. But there’re still enough people in this country who don’t want a man like Trump to be president to keep him out of office, even with the blatant unfairness of the Electoral College.
I have to be honest, even if we do the right thing and give the Democrats the White House, Congress, and more state legislatures and governorships, the deck is still stacked against us in some ways because of the grotesque corruption of the Supreme Court.
The conservative majority has not only protected Trump, they’re started the neutering of the federal government. Their Chevron decision has opened the door for them to block the efforts of federal agencies under a Democratic administration. They’re part of the goal of minority rule that the Right has sought with an eye on our country’s changing demographics.
These ideologs want to rig the game any way they can. The only real way to stop them is for Democrats to expand the court the first time they get a chance. Don’t bet on that
Despite the dangers of the shameless Supremes, our vote remains the only way to stem the tide. If Trump and the Republicans gain power, they’ll change our country in almost unimaginable ways. That’s their goal. They’ve been plotting for this for a long time, with billionaires and millionaires footing the bill for their efforts.
Forget the pundits and the spin and the lies and the foaming-at-the-mouth attacks. It’s up to us. No one else. If we don’t turn out. If enough of us don’t wake up and vote for the good of the country and future generations, we’re doomed. That’s not hyperbole.
I don’t know what’ll happen, but I do know this:
We’ll get the kind of country we vote for, and we’ll deserve it – good or bad.
