We all know about the Big Lie, Donald Trump’s collection of endless lies that the 2020 presidential election was rigged and full of rampant voter fraud.
That Big Lie led to the insurrectionist attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, Trump and the Republicans’ last-ditch effort to overturn a free and fair election.
Get ready for the Big Lie II. If Trump loses to President Joe Biden or whoever the Democratic nominee is this time around, you can bet your house that the four-time indicted, twice impeached, sexual assaulter, tax fraudster, convicted felon will do it all over again, with violence remaining a possibility.
The Big Lie was a continuous drumbeat of accusations for months before the election, all to set the stage for Trump to call foul if he lost. The Big Lie II is following a similar track.
Here we go again.
A story on the Washington Post website is titled, “GOP jump-starts 2024 election challenges with Trump-inspired lawsuits.”
The Republicans are challenging voting and election procedures in key swing states. (Isn’t it funny how it’s always the swing states where they make their accusations. What a coincidence.)
To keep this charade rolling, Trump installed one of his lackeys along with his daughter-in-law Lara Trump to head the Republican National Committee. I know it’s easy to feel sorry for Lara because she’s married to Eric, one of Trump’s two idiot sons, but don’t. She’s a willing instrument for Trump’s lies and disruption.
Their efforts include trying to remove people from the voting roles and blocking mail ballots from being counted if they’re received after election day. They’re also going after absentee voting, drop boxes, and drive-through voting.
As the Post reports: “Critics say the challenges are legally frivolous. But the cases are dangerous nonetheless, they argue, because they are meant to further erode public confidence in elections and lay the groundwork to overturn the results if Trump loses.”
“We live in a world in which no matter what happens, people are going into this election cycle to try to invalidate as many votes as they can,” said Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.
Some suits have been thrown out. In one that was tossed in Nevada, Judge Cristina D. Silva said, “The complaint insinuates that voter fraud could happen. That makes this speculative at best.”
I’d argue that speculative means there’s some chance of something happening. In fact, voter fraud is extremely rare, and the 2020 election was found to have no significant issues despite Trump’s non-stop lying about it.
There’s also concern that there could be a chilling effect among election workers, including how they handle absentee ballots, due to all these phony suits, the Post said. Anything that will gum up the process is just fine with Trump and his gang.
Still, some of the suits may be successful, creating the possibility that thousands of ballots or voters could be deemed ineligible, the Post said. This includes in my state of Pennsylvania, where state and federal judges have ruled in favor of the RNC that mail ballot envelopes must be dated by the voter to be counted.
Forget the fact that the date the ballot is received is stamped when it gets to the local election office. This is just exploiting a technicality to eliminate otherwise legitimate ballots.

Okay, we can all see what’s happening here. Trump is following his old playbook, but this time he’s better at it and has better people around him. I continue to be amazed how Trump pulls this type of bullshit but people will still vote for him.
Right now, he could very well win. God help us if that happens.
While the mainstream media and pundits continue to pound away at the story of Biden’s lousy debate performance, we must keep an eye on Trump. He’s been laying low but he did have a rally this week and was his same unfit, stupid, vile self.
We’re heading for rough times. If Biden wins, we’ll see anger all through MAGA world and possible violence. If Trump wins, we’ll see the beginning of authoritarian rule in our country.
I think the majority of the country would prefer a Biden win. It remains to be seen if enough of them will make it to the polls to save our democracy and rule of law.
