I was told today at DKOS that Senator Sanders-
…….He could turn his focus on Trump, and highlight the real and dire differences between the GOP (not just Trump) and Dems.
I responded with the following-
…...Why when Hillary did NOT turn her sites on McCain until days after the last vote was counted?
And by the way Bernie hammers Trump all the time….
To which I received this in response-
Unless you are taking issue with their generally similar voting record which was documented by the NYTimes which found that they were in synch 93% of the time.
7% doesn’t sound like that big of a difference so I did some research and found out that it constitutes 31 of the aprox 450 votes they took on the same legislation.
Now when one frames it that they deviated 31 times instead 7% it makes the divide look more pronounced, so I decided to find out which of those 31 votes they deviated on. Here is the link . To be fair 6 of the votes were on the same piece of legislation.
Which side of each of these votes was the progressive side and therefore which candidate Hillary or Bernie earned the Progressive street cred?
1. March 13, 2008
Issue: Add up to $45 billion in estate tax exemptions over five-year period

Clinton: For estate tax changes

4. Issue: Set policy to “combat, contain, and roll back” violent Iranian activities in Iraq

Sanders: Opposed policy
Clinton: Supported policy
5. July 19, 2007
Issue: Bar transfer of Guantanamo detainees to America
Outcome: Agreed to, 94-3
Sanders: Allow transfer of Guantanamo detainees
Clinton: Block transfer of Guantanamo detainees
6. Jan. 15, 2009
Issue: Don’t spend final $350 billion in TARP money.
Outcome:Rejected, 42-52
Sanders: Don’t spend the money
Clinton: Continue TARP
7. And of course we all know about Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists AMUF of 2001. Which was used to invade an entire country…... apparently they were all terrorists?
Sanders: Opposed to giving Bush, Cheney carte blanche for endless war in Iraq
Clinton: Supported giving Bush Cheney carte blanche
1. Hillary votes to raise the taxable levels from over 2 million to over 5 million. This vote came during a time in which the US was engaged in 2 wars and dealing with mounting debt thanks to the Bush era tax cuts for the rich. Hillary decided it would be a good idea to grow our debt even further and allow the Mitt Romney’s of the world to leave more wealth to their kids. Thomas Jefferson rolling over in his grave.
2. Supports big biz over farmers, although there are some big farmers out there they are nothing compared to big fossil fuel companies.
3. She is the ultimate flip flopper on coal. Thankfully she was on the losing side of this one.
4. Bomb bomb bomb Iran...oh wait that was her “good” freind John McCain. This is a reason we believe she is hawkish and that is not a progressive ideal.
5. Transfer them try them and jail them or let them go home. We try to spread our “Democracy” all over the world through force but we don’t give these prisoners their day in court? That is NOT a progressive ideal.
6. There were literally banks who refused the TARP money and were forced to take it. And then there is this-
Citigroup, one of the biggest recipients of government bailout money, gave employees $5.33 billion in bonuses for 2008, New York's attorney general said Thursday in a report detailing the payouts by nine big banks……..
Bank of America, which also received $45 billion in TARP money, paid $3.3 billion in bonuses, with 172 employees receiving at least $1 million. Merrill Lynch, which Bank of America acquired during the credit crisis, paid out $3.6 billion.
Bank of America earned $2.56 billion in 2008, while Merrill lost $30.48 billion. Cuomo's office said Merrill Lynch doled out 696 bonuses of at least $1 million for 2008.
Bank of America has been sharply criticized for its acquisition of Merrill Lynch because of mounting losses at the Wall Street bank and the size of bonuses Merrill paid its employees. Of the $45 billion in bailout funds Bank of America received, $20 billion was to support the acquisition of Merrill. Neither Bank of America nor Citigroup have repaid their TARP loans
Why would Senator Clinton vote to give out bonuses to Wall Street employees (Including me) while the rest of America was losing their life savings, homes, cars, jobs, clothes, medicines……..? Why?
Why just because I worked for Wall Street between 2000-2016 did my pay go up 500% when the median household income went down by about 7%?
Where are the votes coming from to make this happen?
7% is the difference between life and death for many. Between shelter and the streets for others. Between medicine and dying for too many.
And by the way I don’t know when the last time you were on an trading floor at a hedge fund, broker dealer, exchange etc... but if you want to see white privilege then you aint seen nothing until you have walked Wall Street. When you walk on to a floor and you see a POC you know damn well they are one of the smartest people in the room because they didn’t get there by nepotism or because of their privilege.
Look at me, I graduated High School with a 1.7 GPA, I went to college…..parties( I have NO college degree). I vowed to never have a 9-5 job. Before I started this line of work I made 8 dollars an hour. I now am in the top 4% of wager earners in this country. And guess what? I still live paycheck to paycheck, because top 5% in NYC don’t mean shit. I have friend that makes 5 million a year with an million dollar expense account and he thinks he is slumming, because he has a friend that makes 50 million. And yep the guy that makes 50 knows someone that makes 500 and is envious.
A poor man wants to be rich
A rich man wants to king
A King isn’t satisfied til he rules everything. BS
Please help me help Hillary and let’s hold her feet to the fire and she will be what she wants US (progressive Democrats) to believe she is.
