There are headlines out today about food safety...and the lack of. E. coli Season and Obama Targets Food Safety

I'd just like to share with you what local families are doing here in our area. We've joined a new Food Co-op startup group. There are 35 members signed up in the past couple of months. Sharing is good and it works.

With the latest news calling credit card debt as the next crash to come...I've been mulling through my choices on my one credit card with a big ol' balance which happens to be Citibank. I've taken to calling my creditors for their advice. Heck, they're getting bailed out, right? I thought maybe I would see if they are willing to share the love. Surprisingly, they are.

My surprise for the day was my new insurance policy as of March 31st, 2009. My monthly mortgage payment will be going up by about $177. Well what a surprise given that they have rated the replacement cost on my house far above what any of the houses currently on sale in the neighborhood are going for. I could buy a couple of houses for the replacement cost they charge me for.

This is rich. From the NYT this evening comes this revelation. All of those outgoing Republicans that poured into Washington eight years ago ... now they have to move out! And the disasterous housing market which they helped to create is now hurting their own pocketbook.

BTW, what was that comment about the northern part of Virginia? Oh, right. It was the comment by John MCain's brother. Enemy territory.

Boy Accidentally Killed by Submachine Gun at Firearms Expo
Father, Instructor Nearby When the 8-Year-Old Fired Micro Uzi

Oct. 27, 2008—

With his father and a firearms instructor standing nearby, an 8-year-old Connecticut boy shot himself in the head with a submachine gun yesterday, killing himself in an accident some say should never have happened.

Christopher Bizilj was testing a 9 mm Micro Uzi at the Westfield Sportsman's Club in Westfield, Mass., as part of the Machine Gun Shoot and Firearms Expo, when he shot himself Sunday.

"The firearm instructor prepped the weapon for him, and once it was ready he handed it to the child," Westfield Police Lt. Hipolito Nunez told ABCNews.com today. Christopher then pulled the trigger, and the gun's recoil pulled the barrel upward, causing a round to hit him on the right side of his head, according Nunez. He was pronounced dead a short time later at Baystate Medical Center in nearby Springfield.

I thought it was a hoot that there was so much uproar about Palin's photo on Newsweek magazines cover. I read some of the comments: she's a regular gal like the rest of us and doesn't spend a fortune on "Hollywood" spa treatments.... but if she spent $13k on makeup and a beautician...what do you call that? Real American beauty? Ummm...doesn't that beautician come with hot wax?
