First, I want to add my thanks to the chorus of those thanking anonymous benefactors. I, too, received a lifetime subscription the other day. It was completely unexpected, and has spawned many spontaneous smiles as I've thought of it at random moments. Thank you. This gift has come at a most opportune moment to lift my spirits, and I love you for that.
Also, a word (shamelessly stolen) from our sponsors:
Here at Top Comments we strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! NOTE: Bowing to that newfangled DK4 stuff :-), you also may send nominations to the Top Comments group email. If you don't see a nomination you made to there in the diary, please pipe up - it means we're still trying to remember not to forget to check!
Onward and upward; hop over the doodly-squiggle for tonight's fluffy story and the top comments of the day.
Several times a year, my back-door neighbor goes on a short trip. She's an Iowa girl with family in North Carolina, and so goes back to connect with family fairly regularly. Each time, she asks me to take care of her two cats, Zoe and Timothy Titus.
Zoe is a 22 year old Maine Coon, and is free with her feline attitude (aka stinkeye). Every morning and every evening, I must pass through the line of her disapproving gaze, as I trundle toward the cat bowls and Fancy Feast. She seems to be saying, "what are you doing here? Well, if you must intrude on my lovely solitude, get the food dished out and begone, peasant!"
See?
Timothy Titus, a plushy shedmonster of a dilute ginger tabby, tends to hide until I am gone. Out of sheer desperation and loneliness, he will usually come out and meow for scritches toward the end of his mama's time away. I haven't seen much of him this time, but my neighbor returns tomorrow afternoon, so it's time for Timothy to ask for a little love.
I feel very lucky that I don't have to dogsit - her dog is a lovely HUGE greyhound named Daniel, 30" at the shoulder. When he wants to lie on the sofa, there is no climbing involved, much less jumping. He just kinda walks forward, and then he's on the sofa. Daniel goes to his former foster mom's house, and has a week-long playdate with her greyhounds.

This revealing comment from kos himself deserves notation. For future use, if nothing else, eh, KelleyRN2?
I recommend this diary by doorguy, and a gilas girl's response to it, among others. There are sure to be more.
Here's an eloquent comment despite the subject by Herodotus Prime.
Some dkos users are so full of kindness and tonyahky not only put it into words, but indeed is one of them.
pucklady caught me by surprise with this tidbit and I actually laughed out loud. Scared a cat, too.
