All day in a rage I have been tweeting about #DemExit. But I am changing my mind. I cannot find another party to join. But it is time that the Democratic Party becomes the Progressive Party. I remember the Democratic Party club meetings in the ‘90’s when people were advocating liberal-lite as a way to attract Reagan Democrats. How did that work out for you? It seemed like a bad idea even then to me.
As it happened I was invited to the meeting by a Black neighbor. It is an interesting coincidence since the feel of the movement is very much parallel to those who said, “Let’s get education and learn to be very polite and as white-like as possible and not to demand too much. That will let us get ahead, gradually.” How did that work out for you?
It is time to take back our party. It is time for Primary Challenges, lots of Primary Challenges. The Democratic regulars, the cronies, are saying, “Suck it up and work for the Democratic party.” Sure, I’ll work for the party whenever there is a candidate that represents my beliefs. The cronies can work for their crony candidates. The crony candidates may find that there is an‘enthusiasm gap’ when it comes to this progressive’s willingness to work.
It is time for primary challenges to the tired old party regulars. Here in California I am ready to start with Dianne Feinstein. Who is ready to be retired in your state?
Certainly there are lots of reasons that HRC didn’t win last November, but I consider one to be me. I was one of the millions that felt the ‘enthusiasm gap’. Instead of putting in the hours, days and weeks that I normally put into a presidential candidate’s campaign, I spent my efforts on a local tax measure. How many thousands of other reliable workers found someplace else to put their efforts that election? I’ve had enough orders from the party regulars. From now on I will work for Democrats – Candidates that I choose –Progressive Candidates. No more hacks!
